Sodium benzoate is a salt of benzoic acid, found naturally in several fruits such as cranberry, plum and apple. It is obtained in the laboratory by the addition of benzoic acid to a very hot solution of sodium carbonate.

Sodium benzoate is a synthetic product that mimics the natural molecule. It is in every way identical to natural sodium benzoate. Its manufacture is ecological and its use without danger, provided that the dosage is respected. The use of synthetic sodium benzoate is more ecological than the manufacture of sodium benzoate stemming directly from nature, as this would require large amounts of organic matter. This is a process that would not be really viable or possible, given the quantities used. For all these reasons, some still consider synthetic sodium benzoate as a "natural" product. This is why he ranks in natural conservatives, despite his synthetic nature. The choice to use it or not is personal :) To souls, we consider that it is a clean, safe, reliable, healthy curator for us and for the environment.

INCI : Benzoate sodium
Appearance : White granules
Solubility: Water -soluble

Properties : Antifungal, antibacterial

pH: Effective in pH 6 and less

*Face creams require a pH of 5. For eye contour creams, the pH of which must be ideally 7, use the Dermasoft Pentiol Eco.

Uses: Products containing a stable aqueous phase and whose pH is 6.0 or less.

Use : Conservative for formulas containing an aqueous phase.

Note that water without water do not require a curator. However, you will have the advantage of using an antioxidant, such as thevitamin E oil. It slows down fat, but is not a preservative.

Concentration: Maximum 1%. Reduce if combined with other preservatives (often combined with potassium sorbate).

It is not recommended to combine it with vitamin C. This could form benzenes, carcinogenic products. However, studies did not focus on cosmetics. We invite you to do your research and be cautious, even if the views are shared.

We recommend avoiding infusions and favoring aloe gel (which already contains a preservative), distilled water and hydrosols. According to the chemists, the latter are not stable, but we are herbalists, and we love the hydrosols! These can keep a good year or more. Which is rather stable for water. With hydrosols in the aqueous phase, an emulsion h/e is kept, thanks to sodium benzoate, about a year, which is very acceptable to us. We prefer to make living products that keep for a few months rather than dead products that remain stable for years!

ATTENTION : Hold out of the reach of children. /Do not swallow or inhale and avoid contact with the eyes. /Respect the recommended dosage. / Always do an allergy test on the forearm (finished product test).
