Description : The root comes from marshmallow (Althaea officinalis L.). It is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Malvaceae family, common in Europe. Although it produces ornamental flowers, it can be grown as a vegetable plant. It is mainly used for the medicinal properties of its roots.
Properties : Marshmallow powder is emollient, because it is rich in mucilage). It softens and calms the mucous membranes. It is detangling, conditioning and protective for the hair. It also adds volume and shine. It is softening, hydrating, calming and protective for sensitive and dehydrated skin. Internally, it calms and protects irritated mucous membranes (ulcers, sore throats, coughs). Uses: Hydro-glycerin, solid and liquid shampoos, tablets, hair and/or skin mask, cream.
Caution : Space out taking marshmallow internally and taking medication by 4 hours. The mucilages could interfere and stop the medications from working.
Soothing mask
10g Marshmallow Powder
5g Colloidal oatmeal
5g calendula oleic extracts
Mix the three ingredients and moisten with water or hydrosol (calendula, chamomile, rose) until you obtain a smooth paste.
Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes then rinse.
Hair care: Add a few tweezers to your individual dose of neutral shampoo to strengthen the hair sheath. Add to your soothing mask to soothe itchy or irritated scalp.
