Elderberry extract is an antimicrobial product developed by Active Micro Technologies. It is a natural product, since it is extracted from elderberries.

Elderberries are rich in phytonutrients (antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties) like caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid and quercetin. The fruit also contains anthocyanins which help strengthen the immune system. Antioxidants, like those found in elderberries, are great additions to skincare regimens because they provide protection against free radicals. These contribute to cellular damage, aging and the formation of wrinkles. Bioflavonoids, which can also be found in elderberries, have astringent properties that help tighten the skin and provide additional anti-wrinkle benefits. This super fruit is also an excellent source of undecylenic acid, an organic fatty acid that provides broad antimicrobial benefits and is particularly effective against fungal microorganisms.

There are no solvents used in its extraction and it contains no added preservatives or antioxidants.

Clear to amber liquid, stable up to 75°C.

Preservation : Store in a cool place for one year (close the bottle tightly)

INCI : Sambucus nigra Fruit Extract

Origin: United States

Properties: preservative, antimicrobial

Solubility: Insoluble in water. It is oil soluble and, therefore, can be used in a variety of anhydrous and oil-containing applications.

pH: Most effective in formulas containing water at pH levels between 3.0 and 8.0.

Focus: From 1 to 5%

Uses: Skin conditioning, antimicrobial for anhydrous products (lip balms, balms, body butters), antimicrobial for cosmetic formulations containing oil. Can be added to any product containing an oily phase.

Usage: As it is soluble in fats and not in water, it will be added to the oil phase of a formula or directly to fatty substances. It is recommended to add it at a temperature of 75°C.

Emulsions:

We recommend avoiding infusions and favoring aloe gel (which already contains a preservative), distilled water and hydrosols. According to chemists, these are not stable, but we are herbalists, and we love hydrosols! These can be kept for a good year, or even longer. Which is rather stable for water. With hydrosols in the aqueous phase, an O/W emulsion can be kept, thanks to the elderberry extract, for a few months. Elderberry extract does have an antibacterial action in emulsions, but its antifungal action is very weak. This means that mold can appear in the cream after a short time. This is why we advise you to combine it with another preservative in your emulsions.

Received the extract quickly, easy to use container. I've added it to a moisturizing Shea and aloe cream, but haven't used it yet.
